to relax
With its unimpeded view of the Aegean and volcanic cliffs, this is a small paradise for those in search of serenity, located just a few kilometres away from Oia, Santorini’s beating heart.
The name Abelonas comes from the ancient Greek word ‘ἄμπελος’ which means grape vine. According to ancient Greek mythology, Ampelos was a satyr and was the beloved follower of Dionysus, the God of wine. However, Ampelos was wrongly killed and the Furies, seeing Dionysus’ deep sorrow, took pity on him and transformed the youth into the plant of the same name.
We want to share something of the centuries-old glamour of the vine and wine with our guests: Built in the middle of an immense, traditional vineyard of famed “wreath vines”, two new, luxury, fully equipped, self-contained apartments are the ideal choice for anyone who wants to relax in a serene environment yet be close to all the pleasures and experiences Santorini has to offer.
There’s also a unique opportunity for guests intrigued by the wine production process: depending on what time of the year you visit “Abelonas Houses”, you’ll have the opportunity to watch or even participate in traditional pruning, harvesting, drying or grape pressing activities, not to mention of course the chance to sample our wine.
